Yeah, but I honestly prefer these, because it gives us a chance to see what is going on

I can see both ways. On one hand knowning your favorite skill will be reduced in power (read: not nerfed!) will bother some people. But on the other it sort of shows us how the developers think and what their opinions are on certain skills.

this is the best way for anet to relize what works, and what dosent...if they do a closed beta test of the updates with, say, 100 people, and none of those people play on a paragon that weekend...how will they know if what they did for those paragon skills was a good change, a bad change, or if it did notheing at all?
In general, the whole open weekend idea is the best.

A negative psychological impact? Most of the people I've met in the game are so stupid that I really don't think there is much to impact.

I think this is a great way for anet to let us (the playerbase) get our views and opinions accross to them on skill balances ... "BUT" implementing an update SO overdue only to let us have one weekend of trying it out is stupid , most of the pvp player base is waiting for this update before considering any competitive play (since the embalances are well known and overused at the minute).
So we get one weekend of "freshness" and then another month of waiting on izzy to implement the update we as a community could of given him 3 months ago.

Ok seriously. This is just incredibly stupid, for the lack of a better word. Everybody has been there. Just move on. If your favorite skill gets nerfed, so what. Get a new one. There is a reason it's getting nerfed.
Sorry for saying it so blunt, but only children whine that their favorite skill will get nerfed. No offense.

I have to agree with the aprehension but I did enjoy the "test" weekend.
At least I know where the changes are likely to be.
The waiting for the final changes is the real pain.

Nobody's whining here. I'm just saying that at this moment, we're kind of left "hanging"... in a way, using "last year's model" of skills, when we know that this year's model will be out soon...
and it's not just the nerfs, but also the buffs that we're waiting for.

Nobody should be that connected to a certain skill or skills.
I have my favorites but I know when they are imba and abused, so I will agree on the nerfs. A player must look at the global, not focus on his egoistic self. Most good players understand that. If they feel their build is imba they will accept the change, if they whine like hell, then...I pity them.

Skill balances have been happening is GW was released. Long-time players should already know and expect that they're going to happen. When they happen is always after the end of one ladder season and the beginning of the next. IMHO, it's a good thing to know in advance what changes may be coming. It's also good to know that thousands of people have been able to test out the possible changes and voice their opinions on those changes. It's more of a comfort to me to know that some proposed changes that are off-base may not get changed because of the input players hav made. (Look at all of the comments regarding the Paragon nerfs and/or the nerf to Energy Surge)

This is not a huge deal.. no one is going to rage-quit over this negative feeling, but it's there nonetheless ... it kind of feels like we're not playing the "real" version of the game.
anyone else feel this way?
|
You're right, it's not a huge deal. Don't make it out to be one. Don't worry about it, play the game, have fun. When the changes get finalized, re-evaluate your builds, make whatever adjustments to your skill bar you need, and play on!

What's wrong about waiting for buffs?
I mean, it's like christmas. Again, no offense, but grow up and wait for your presents.

I sincerely hope they never do this again, though I realize they already said they will.
I couldn't care less about balancing skills for PvP at all, and I'll be damned if I'm going to spend the precious few hours I can play during the weekend adjusting to changes that'll be rolled back the following monday. I didn't play during the test weekend and I know I won't be playing during any future ones either.

The key is not to get personal over the skills or the builds for that sake.
It's not like the skills nor the builds care anyway

If there wasn't a test weekend, you'd still be sitting at your keyboard praying that the skill wouldn't be nerfed in the next skill fix.

I believe it's a better alternative from closed alpha, mainly because of the number of people testing stuff. It's easier to get a feedback of various situations, from various builds and all kinds of modes in the game (pvp modes, pve mode). The area covered with an open testing week is much bigger.
This weekend also allowed everyone to see what was too good and what was too bad, and how good the changes could be. I might be wrong, but I don't think Nightfall come out balanced; actually, pretty much the opposite, and this event wasn't just good, but necessary.

What a terrible way to approach the weekends.
If you're favorite skill is nerfed, you should at least compromise your emotional attachment to a skill for the sake of balance in guild wars. If you feel strongly against it, there's posts on forums to address your concern.

That's one of the things I don't like about the weekend... a large majority of the population is more concerned with hoping their favorite skills are made stronger than with the overall balance among skills in the game. An open test weekend gives alot of mixed messages, from the people who just want maximum power to the people who want things kept to a level of balance.

Its very simple, the test weekend allows more skill combinations to be tested, That was my guess when they did it, and after, I read a statement that the balancers had this in mind. I liked it. There were some downsides, but also new possibilities. Proper evaluation will improve the balance for at least a while. I liked it, and they may do so in the future. Even the midevent update was justified i think, they may have included more in that one.
